Birth

”I wish I can remember the morning I was born. I heard many stories but there’s nothing like a memory.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Born Izani Rjna to the noble family of Ishanvi with a Viera father and Fae mother in Thavnair’s capital city, Rad-at-Han, Izani is the only child to Lord Aslan Ishanvi and Faisal Ishanvi.
On the morning Izani was born in the family home in Radz-at-Han, a severe summer heat raged. For this reason, she is sometimes described to be "Coeurl Blooded" because of the unforgiving nature of the beasts. She almost lost her mother from the complicated birth and her father that day as he was returning from his final voyage and a fight with his brother to take his place as Satrap of their clan.
Both parents prevailed and a celebration was given in honor of their princess.
As a baby, she was often taken into the jungles of Thavnair where the smaller parts of the clan remained inside of the jungles and settlements, helping when called upon. She would come to spend most of her days sneaking into the jungles and it would shape her for childhood.
Additional Ishanvi Lore
The Ishanvi are the current satrap and rulers of Radz-at-Han with a lineage dating back to the founding of the nation. As satrap, they only wield authority in times of crisis to mediate a solution, while the nation is mostly run by the people themselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The pain. That’s all she could think of. The contractions felt like a sharp shooting pain through the stomach. Laying in the bed, the pain was clear on her face. She screamed every five seconds, hoping her baby would shoot out easily. Though, that wasn’t the case. Faisal tried breathing like the midwife suggested, yet, still, the contractions continued to wear her down. And she listened… She pushed and pushed long and hard. An hour past before they made progress. The head finally showed. To Faisal, the pain resembled a watermelon being pushed through a hole the size of a lemon. Good thing she wasn’t having twins.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“This isn’t good,” One of the Ishanvi doctors exclaimed. He widened his eyes. “It looks like something isn’t right with him. It’s the umbilical cord…it’s wrapped around his neck.”
“What does that mean?!” Faisal yelled through her pushing and pain.
“If we don’t get the baby out now, he is going to die.”
“Do a C-section,” the midwife said.
“It’s too late. By the time I get ready to that the baby will be dead. I’m sorry, but we’re going to have to rely on faith alone for this.”
A doctor, someone who studied science and only believed in the facts, had to now rely on what he could not predict, on something that science alone could not solve.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I got to throw up,” Faisal said. Her body was hot, heavy and in pain. She felt like this nightmare would never end.
It was as if she had gone to hell and back, though the fire continued to burn. Yes, this moment was supposed to be sweet and memorable, except it wasn’t. Faisal wanted all the agonizing to end. Right here. Right now.
Everyone hovered around her like wild animals. She needed space. She needed air. “Get this thing out of me!” she shouted, squeezing her niece’s hand tightly. If the baby didn’t leave her body soon, she might faint.
“Is the position comfy enough for you?” the midwife asked for the eightieth time.
“Keep pushing, you’re almost there,” the doctor reminded her.
All Faisal really wanted was for them to…. “Shut up!!” she screamed, still heaving and pushing steadily. Then, entering the room was Aslan’s niece. She went by the bed and held up on of her aunt’s legs to help.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Vitani,” Faisal said, relieved. If anyone could brighten her day it would be her niece.
“It’s fine, all you need to do is keep breathing.”
“They said he has a—”
Vitani shushed her. “I already know, your majesty,” she said. “Just keep pushing. Don’t quit now or all of this was for nothing.”
”Where is Aslan?!”
She knew her husband was still locked in battle with his younger brother. They went on like this for a while. Breathing, chanting, and pushing. It was a repeated cycle. Maya, feeling drowsy, was beginning to pass out. Who knew how long she had left to continue on like this.

Please come out, my son, Faisal thought to herself. I held you warm in me long enough. It’s time to come out and see the world.

Why did I have to run away in the first two months of my pregnancy? This is all my fault. Not only their prince premature but he has a cord choking him. If he doesn’t make it, I vow to end my own life. I don’t deserve to live without him.

Her baby didn’t seem like he wanted to come out, anyway. His head popped back into his mother’s body so quickly. She could feel them, the doctors, rummaging about inside her, like people who had lost something at the bottom of a suitcase. She knew it ought to hurt, it ought to hurt like hell, but it didn’t. She could hear the doctors murmuring to each other, could see the tops of their heads, could feel their hands in her innards.

”FAISAL!”
Hooded eyes looked towards the door her husband just crashed through, axe in hand and bloodied. She tried sitting up in concern for her husband’s current state when a series of wails came from her.
Because of the blood being slippery, the doctor couldn’t get a good grip on the head. It wasn’t until the next long push that got the job done. Half the baby exited Faisal’s body and the doctor was able to pull out the rest of the body.
And there was a great heave and suck and she almost cried out, what are you doing, before she realised, before she heard the sharp, angry cry, surprisingly loud in the hushed room, before she heard the midwife, behind her, saying a princess. Faisal repeated this word to herself as she stared ahead at the marbled ceiling. Girl. A princess. Their daughter.
”Your majesties, you have a princess.” The doctor looked nervously at his King. Would he be angry about the gender of his first child?
Immediately after the doctor cut the cord from around her neck, the crying baby girl was put on Faisal’s chest. Aslan stood close, smiling proudly through heavy breaths.
“I love you,” Faisal said, looking deep into her baby’s eyes. And with that, the baby went silent. No more crying, just silent.
”She gave such a fight. Like coeurl.”

The next morning the enormity of it all hit her. She had brought forth life, rendered human something from almost nothing, and this power, this ability to create, overwhelmed her.
A healthy princess. She was a reflection of the Queen.

Aslan held the tiny bundle in his large arms, bouncing her and occasionally leaning down to scatter kisses on her tiny face. Though most were worried about their King’s reaction to having a girl, he was in love. ”She is strong. Loud voice. This little girl will start empires.” the King cooed.

Faisal just watched her husband and her daughter with protective eyes. She hated the fact that the royal council had chosen to stand in her birthing room and interrupt this moment upset the Queen.
”She needs a name, dearest. A father should name their child.”
Aslan didn’t miss a step as he bounced. His mind went to his wife. A beautiful Fae-elf. Their daughter had her ears. When he finally got her to open her eyes they were not the hazel of his family line. It was the piercing emerald he had fallen in love with many years ago.

”Izani. For the sun she was born under. Rjna. Keeping the old ways of the Ishanvi and giving her a name fitting a Viera born.” The King’s voice boomed throughout the room. What would have made most babies cry, the princess cooed in her father’s arms as if accepting her name.

”Izani Rjna, princess of the Ishanvi.”

Childhood

”I am a Rea’ka, that is no small thing to be and my father is the Great Satrap of Thavnair and head of the Ishanvi, one of the greatest families in the country. One day...they will know me as well.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Izani’s childhood was very innocent for a time. House Ishanvi has always been one of the most ancient and powerful noble families on the island and has always had a seat at anything political for the good of Thavnair. Growing up in the capital with her parents she was not expected to smile and entertain the other nobles houses as the other girls did but she learned anyway. She was bullied at a young age for being "strange", being that she was a half-breed and having knowing things before they happened. Her mother noted that Iza was blessed with the gift of sight. Often times Iza would be found by her guardians sneaking out of Radz-at-Han to go play inside of the jungles or sneak to see the other members of the family that resided there.
Her parents were laidback, caring rulers with a code, who before returning to Thavnair to settle down to have their family, were sky pirates. Her mother, Faisal was her father's first mate having believed in the Ishanvi‘s way that their heirs should travel the world before choosing to settle down.
Iza grew up listening to her father tell stories of his adventures with her mother and the things he learned, their airship and the crew that was his family.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At ten summers, Iza was taken by her parents to a ceremony for her rite of passage; choosing and taming a coeurl, earning her place as a coeurlrider among the clan which was the greatest honor among her people. She shocked everyone when she emerged from the jungles with not one but three (3) coeurl kittens that she had chosen to be her companions, each of different colors. She had given them the names of Kaido , Aiphone and Icien. Kaido being her main mount of choice and favorite.
Learning to the family’s trade of goldsmithing, making jewelry, perfumes and oils, to dance and the other lessons taught by her tutors. When the Garleans came for a treaty between them and the nobles that controlled Thavanir's government it was the Ishanvi who led the opposing side, wondering if it was a good idea.

Aslan Ishanvi, Iza’s father often used her gift of sight when it was possible but especially in this situation when she told him about the things the Garleans were doing to other nations and beast tribes. It angered her father and fueled his protests even more. There were rumors at the time about an arranged marriage between her and a high ranking Garlean but never confirmed.

Thavnair had always had a very limited amount of outward military presence but when one would see any, it would be through the active treaty with the nobles of Thavnair. Izani noticed from a very young age how influential the Garleans were on the island. It became much clearer when the acting Legatus would frequently visit that they were always going to be an active presence on the island.

More About Izani
Being a mixed-breed between Fae and Viera, Iza is a lot smaller than the average Viera standing at 4’10 she was bullied in her childhood and teenage years but becomes a force to be reckoned with when in the heat of battle. Using her build and speed against those bigger than her.

Teen years

”I have never been nothing.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Against the better wishes of her mother and a few opposing nobles, the city-state successfully forged a non-interference treaty with the Garlean Empire with a few exceptions. The treaty was meant to secure the independence of Thavnair as well as create an active trade for the Garleans as they were cut off from supplies to Eorzea after the failed invasion a few years prior.
The decision was not received well by Iza's family but after being out voted there was little that her family could do as her mother always reminded her, to trust a Garlean was to sign a death warrant. Her rebellious streak started then as she started to dive deeper into learning the ways of the dancer and astrology for her visions.
Along with her gifts, it was discovered Iza had an affinity for Akasa energies.
Keep in Mind...
Akasa “spiritual emotion” is the unseen energies described as an essence influenced by feelings. A gift bestowed from on high or torn from the heavens. It can not be created nor destroyed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Her mother reminded her that the way of their people was to live life in freedom and truth. That no one man or woman was meant to be the same. Unity in diversity is what she reminded her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Izani used her visions for fortune telling, her nights were spent expanding her dancing and singing in brothels. Her talents were noticed by the Falsian Troupe’s leader, Nashmeira who took her under her wing to learn the true passions of a Thavnairian dancer. Iza didn’t want to be known as just exotic in her dance. She wanted to move people and tell stories in her movements.
Her father taught her the fighting styles of dance. Being an excellent fighter himself he wanted his daughter to live the true way. Not just the hannish way but the way of the Ishanvi. He taught her to defend as well as to kill. They went for hunts together and he taught her about gathering the skins of the beasts she killed but also how to tame them.
In the early mornings, Iza would sit with her handmaiden, M'aisha and watch the ships bring in travelers from all over. On one of the occasions when she would walk on one of the beaches, she came across a Xaela Sky Pirate named Akira Cross. His ship was not like the others that came to port and the things he came to trade where from places she had never seen from Eorzea and beyond.

When Akira noticed her following him, the older man decided to challenge her to a sparing match that ended in a tie. For winning she wanted him to tell her about his ship and adventures. Something that caught him offguard but he was happy to indulge. Akira began to explain to her the differences and similarities between what a sea loving Pirate was and a sky pirate.

When he asks why she spends her time at the ports, watching the ships she tells him about her parents and that she craves the freedom her father once tasted. During his stay in Thavnair, Akira visited the girl often. Taking on the role of sometimes another father, guardian and big brother. Even having met the Itarl and his wife.

Akira saw the passion in her and told her the only way she would be able to live is always on the move and what better place to do that then In the clouds. Having impressed the pirate, he offered her a place in his crew. When she hesitated he tells her that he will return to Thavnair when the winds allow and hopefully she would have made a choice by then.

More About Izani
Izani has been described as fair, and beautiful. She loves the sea and skies, as it makes her feel free, as well as the sailors and their songs and stories. She also loves to read children's stories and songs from the Near and Far East about tall and handsome heroes. She enjoys heat, preferring her baths scalding hot. As befits her status of birth, Izani often dresses in a colorful saris when she’s home with her family and attending events. She has several bustiers, including a purple bustier fringed with amethysts and pearls and a burgundy bustier, with a golden stripe and a fringe of golden beads.
Keep in Mind...
Iza's actual age is currently unknown. Though the power of Fae blood is unknown. Viera retain their physical youth for centuries, making it nigh impossible to discern the age of a Viera from their outward appearance. With the age of roughly 300+ years being easily attainable by a Viera, it is possible they live even longer. She is noted to appear 28 years old.

Leaving Thavnair

”I will go to lands where my shadow can grow and my soul will sing.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Finally becoming a woman desired by many and the crown jewel of her clan, Iza gained the classical Thavnairian look and is quoted by most to be a “wild beauty”. She had a touch of wildness to her, which was described as "the coeurl blood" by her father and compared her to his tomboyish wife in personality during their youth.
The other noble houses called her a child-woman of surpassing loveliness. Be it her emerald colored eyes, sun kissed skin, and long, thick, softly curling black hair which she was able to tame at times and full lips, Izani commanded the attention of any and everyone who looked her way. She was said to resemble her mother in her youth.
When she came of age to sit in the council meetings, Aslan begun to bring his daughter to the meetings the high houses had with Garlean representatives. She advised her father that one should see with eyes unclouded though one thing was painfully clear to Izani: Thavnair would one day lose it's independence and so would her people if nothing was done. The treaty the city-state worked to push through would fall under the empire one day if they were ever able to conquer Eorzea.

Iza spoke to her mother about the Sky Pirate they housed and bought into their family and what kind of life he lived. Faisal told her daughter that unfortunately she would never get to see the jungles her ancestors lived and grew up in or the tribes that connected them. She did however want her daughter to see the places she once traveled with her father and meet someone who “makes her soul sing”. Iza knew in her heart she couldn’t take orders. That was not the calling she felt.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It would be two more years before she met Akira again. And instead of accepting his offer to join him she commissioned him to find her a large airship or have one built for her which she named the Maegi, hiring a crew made up of outcasted Hannish and Thavnairian men and women using the disguise of a dancing troupe, setting sail for what lies beyond the next cloud. She told him that a war was coming, one that this world had never seen and she would follow her father's footsteps and teachings to stop it.
Impressed with her determination and heart, Akira told her that she needed more than her countrymen. She needed someone to teach her the languages of the beast tribes and people she wanted to trade with. When he bought her to see the commissioned work, it was a ship fitting a queen. Her very own sky palace. In addition to this gift he had given her, Akira decided to renounce his claim as Captain of his own ship, offering her his services and crew.
Following her father's approval, she gave Akira the highest honor of being her advisor and first mate.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the main things that Akira made clear to Izani was that she needed a solid crew and connections. Aboard the Maegi, the first stop the made was towards Ul’dah. She would be respected because of who her father once was when he sailed the skies but He wanted to introduce her to his old connections and establish herself among the known pirates.
Over the course of weeks, in between physical training with Akira and learning how to use her coeurls in a fight, she met some of Akita’s old connections while making some new ones of her own. After one encounter with a well-known merchant that earned her a second lady-in-waiting, A’zumyn Bhen, she begun to show her unwavering sense of justice as well as her bad temper and ruthlessness.
Though the men and women of Ul’dah were skilled fighters and she acquired some for her crew, they weren’t pirates. Who better, she thought, then the best sellswords and pirates of Limsa Lominsa?
Iza sailed to Limsa and met with Admiral Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn. After a week of negotiations, her family name and promises of secrecy, Merlwyb agreed to give her a crew of 125 skilled fighters made up of men and women as per Iza's request. Believing that Iza's cause would actually bare fruit for Limsa as well, Merlwyb also made her swear her crew to aid Limsa in times of danger to which Iza agreed. The leader of the crew given to her was named Gahlin and he had no intention of following any orders given to him by Izani. Akira asked for Iza to allow him to duel Gahlin for submission. Izanie declined his request over 13 times.

Sky Queen

”My reign has just begun.”

Before she allowed the crew to board her ship Iza herself challenged Gahlin to the traditional pirate duel for control of the crew as was her right. Iza defeated Gahlin and gave him the choice to pledge loyalty or die. Gahlin at first refused but after his crew made the choice to follow the Captain who earned their respect, he had no choice but to also follow suit.

Izani and her crew set sail across the Astral Sea and the skies above the Sea of Jade being her main domain as it was the closest to the Garlean Empire. Having captured and stolen hundreds from hundreds of pirate and trade ships, her name and deeds became something to be feared and respected. She won the love of islands and cities she visited, handing riches to the poor and making alliances with leaders. Her crew of 25 grew to over 200 men and women from all across Eorzea. Under her flagship sailed two more ships she had captured from the Garleans. She was crowned the Sky Queen of Jade just as Akira promised he would deliver to her.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In a speech given to her crew she said:
"Every Captain that has ever lived sweared that their crew was the best that ever sailed the Five Seas or the Astral Sea.
They never met mine.
They never fought with mine.
I have been told all my life who I was to be and what I am. The same could be said for all of you! We have been shunned, labeled and feared.
You followed behind me to achieve a mission. To be the greatest crew to sail these seas and liberate what the Garleans took!
We will not follow in my father’s footsteps.
WE will be greater than him.
We steal from those that tolerate Garlemald and give it back to the people. If I am to wear the title of Queen, I will be the Queen of the greatest band of Thieves to ever set sail!
I will ask more of you than any Captain has asked of their crew.
Will you ride these seas with me and give back to the people? Will you kill my enemies and strike fear into their hearts? You have given me the skies of the Sea of Jade...Will you fly with me and give me all of the skies?! Will you ride with me? From this day, until our last day, now and always?!”
Needless to say, they followed their Queen.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While traveling and helping the people of Doma adjust to their freedom after so many years, Izani received a letter from her father telling her of intelligence that war was rising once again. Scarcely had Ala Mhigo taken its first breath of freedom that the Empire wanted to reclaim the bloodied nation. He had also told her that her Uncle had chosen to fight along side the Garleans in a show of faith from the Ishanvi.
With their negotiations in tatters, the Eorzean Alliance had to shore up its defenses as the Empire was to bring its might to bear on the Ala Mhigan border and the deciding battle was to happen at the battle of Ghimlyt.

The Resistance

”I’m going to pick the fastest ship in our fleet. I’m going to choose the 50 best killers on my islands. I’m going to sail up the astral sea and clouds. I’m going to find my enemies...and I’m going to kill them all.”

The Ghimlyt Dark was on a section of land connecting Aldenard (where the Eorzean region is) and Ilsabard (where the Garlean Empire is). It is the only land bridge between the two continents and Iza knew it was the only way ground troops can move into Eorzea.

Having met with her father on the shores of Doma, Iza told him that her uncle’s actions made it seem as if he was the future of their clan and therefore contesting her own claim and right to lead. It was an insult that she knew needed to be corrected not only in front of her crew but the men and women of her family’s army. The final choice came when a letter personally delivered to Izani written in the Sultana’s own hand beseeched her to lend her strength to the Alliance and fight off the Garleans.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A confluence of harsh terrain and aetheroclimatic conditions had shrouded the land in perpetual darkness, and it was there the decisive battle for Eorzea began. Joined by their Far Eastern allies and the Eorzean Alliance, Iza decended onto the battlefield with her crew, the other half of her family’s army and her parents for the battle of Eorzea.
She battled desperately to fight back the seemingly endless waves of imperial troops. In one final push back on the eastern end, Izani met her uncle on the battlefield. A long awaited fight and one that she told her father to allow her to handle. Though having walked away with life threatening injuries from the fight, the warrior princess emerged victorious.

Vihana

”My legacy will be greater than my predecessors. Today I am Satrap.”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With the war at a standstill, the young Queen decided to return to her palace in the Sky and resume her duties and odd jobs with her crew. It would be no less than a month or so that she would be sought out by her father in Doma.
Over dinner he explained to her that he was summoning her to return to Thavnair. There were plots of a coup being arranged by the King’s younger brother to kill both Aslan and Izani herself.
The King presented his daughter with a blueprint and plan to collected the parts of the Ishanvi clan that didn’t reside in Radz-at-Han and build a large village somewhere on the island. He also wanted her to regain control of their family’s armies.
This purpose was to strip her uncle of any political power the Ishanvi believed him to have.

The decision to give up her life in the skies, even just temporary was not easy. She achieved the life she dreamed of and accomplished almost as much as her father before her.

But she also understood her duties as Queen to her crew did not overshadow her position as princess to her people.
Her father needed her.
Her people needed her.

When she told her crew of her choice to return home and what was about to happen they reminded her of the vow they made. They returned to their Queen’s home and begun the work Aslan asked for.

The Ishanvi in the jungles were not like the ones in the capital. Though they respected the main family and their King, the rumors of the King’s brother siding with the Garleans did not go unheard. When their princess started visiting the villages of her people, she noticed the vast numbers compared to those who stayed in the main estate.

She told them of her intentions to build a large village to house not just them but also herself since it was time to join the family again.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After weeks of attempting to persuade her people and find a large enough spot of land, she did.
Building upon the land, it is protected by a lake on one side and high walls surrounding its entirety.
It was named Vihana, a fortress, where she housed and collected all of the members of the main and sub branches that lived in other villages. She has buildings made for the development of the Ishanvi trade.
They were dedicated to their focus on beast taming, trade of goldsmithing, perfumes, potions and oils. They also begun finding mining outlets for gems and ores.
They also carry ore from the mining to the fortress, where women use pair of bellows to pour iron. The blacksmiths forge the armies weapons out of iron. With the rise in the family stores and fortunes due to Iza and Vihana’s efforts she was acknowledged by her people and other nobles of her ability to provide.
Even going as far to trade food and goods with the Arkasodara making them reliable friends.
Soon after her people were not the only ones who lived in Vihana. Many inhabitants was prostitutes or discards. Izani gave them a living and a workplace. She saved many lives from starvation and disgrace. The people in Vihana grew to respect her for helping homeless people. They will risk their life to protect Queen Izani by any means.

Vihana, Thavnair is currently where Iza resides before and the beginning of Endwalker.
